The West Mesquite Wranglers will head out on the road to take on the North Mesquite Stallions at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
West Mesquite's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 16-0 margin over Seagoville. The result was nothing new for the Wranglers, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Amberly Cruz was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, West Mesquite got a massive performance out of Nadia Juarez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most RBI Juarez has posted since back in February. Chasity Thomas also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
West Mesquite always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .808. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, North Mesquite came into Tuesday's game having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They blew past Adams 17-4 on Tuesday.
The team relied heavily on Alysa Garza, who fired off two home runs, nine RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Olga Lopez, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
West Mesquite has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. North Mesquite's record is now 4-16.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. West Mesquite has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .494. However, it's not like North Mesquite struggles in that department as they've averaged .479. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
