Basketball Game Preview: Coronado Dons vs. Combs Coyotes

The Coronado Dons just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Combs Coyotes at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Coronado is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.

On Wednesday, Coronado came up short against Goldwater and fell 62-53. That's two games in a row now that the Dons have lost by exactly nine points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Combs). They were the clear victor by a 69-43 margin over South Mountain on Tuesday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Coyotes with their most commanding win of the season.

Combs' win came from a few key players Coronado will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Logan Tuckfield, who went 9 for 13 on his way to 24 points. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinmetris Cunningham, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.

The win made it two in a row for Combs and bumps their season record up to 5-3. As for Coronado, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

Coronado came up short against Combs when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 63-50. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Tuckfield, who went 6 of 9from beyond the arc on his way to 22 points and three steals.
