Baseball Recap: Kingsburg Find Success

The Kingsburg Vikings were able to grind out a solid victory over the Atascadero Greyhounds on Friday, taking the game 4-1. That's two games straight that the Vikings have won by exactly three runs.

Eric Garcia made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other pitching news, Travis Clifton tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk).

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jensen Hirschkorn, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Ekizian, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Kingsburg hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Atascadero struck out eight times.

The win made it two in a row for Kingsburg and bumps their season record up to 7-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Atascadero, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.

Looking ahead, Kingsburg will venture away from home to square off against Arroyo Grande at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Atascadero, they will host San Luis Obispo at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
