Softball Recap: Hubbard Wins Going Away Against Struthers

Hubbard won the last time they faced Struthers and things went their way on Monday too. The Eagles put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 14-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Haleigh Taylor was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles, four RBI, and two runs. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lauren Komorek, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Layla Songer, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Hubbard kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Hubbard's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-9. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Struthers, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-19.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hubbard will welcome Salem at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Quakers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.67 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Struthers, they will be playing at home against Heartland Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
