Preview: Oceanside Mariners vs. Medomak Valley Panthers
Oceanside has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Medomak Valley Panthers at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Oceanside has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 422 points over their last nine matches.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Oceanside had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They blew past Nokomis, posting a 52-14 win at home. Considering Oceanside has won seven matches by more than 19 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Cohen Galley continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 144 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries, while also throwing for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Galley is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played. Zeb Foster was in the mix too, providing Oceanside with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Medomak Valley earned a 18-6 win over Hermon on Saturday.
Oceanside's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 Belfast and 1-8 Brewer (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 36% over those games). As for Medomak Valley, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
Oceanside didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Medomak Valley in their previous matchup back in October, but they still walked away with a 36-30 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Oceanside since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
