Independence posted their closest victory since March 25th on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Buckeye Hawks 3-2. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-2 back in March.

Independence wouldn't go down easily and took Buckeye into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 20-25, 19-25, 25-20, 15-13.

Javier Urias paced Independence's offense, picking up 20 kills. Urias got some help from Hser Lar and his 18 assists. Urias was also solid from the service line: he led the team with five aces.

Despite the loss, Buckeye still got an impressive performance from Erick Rivera, who had 15 digs and six aces. Rivera is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had 13 or more in each of the last three games he's played.

Independence pushed their record up to 16-13 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. As for Buckeye, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-8.

Independence has already played their next match, a 3-0 win against Youngker on the 22nd. As for Buckeye, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Fairfax on the 18th.
