Basketball Recap: Kalli Bontrager Key Part of a Team Effort in Couriers Win

Clinton Christian hadn't done well against Heritage Christian recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Clinton Christian Couriers walked away with a 43-36 victory over the Heritage Christian Defenders. For the Couriers, this counts as revenge for the 54-16 win the Defenders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Clinton Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kalli Bontrager led the charge by going 7 of 15 en route to 19 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Those 19 points gave Bontrager a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Bontrager, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.

Despite the loss, Heritage Christian still got an impressive performance from Sydney Lenting, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. Lenting is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Lili Haak was another key player, putting up six points along with five boards and three steals.

The victory made it two in a row for Clinton Christian and bumps their season record up to 7-10. As for Heritage Christian, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season.

Clinton Christian has already played their next contest, a 71-21 loss against La Lumiere on the 4th. As for Heritage Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 48-25 win against Illinois Lutheran on the 4th.
