Softball Recap: Petersburg Triumphs

Petersburg extended their postseason success on Thursday against Logan. They skirted past the Wildcats 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Vikings have posted since April 16th.

Olivia Kimble looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Shyane Tawney, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Miley Tingler, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one triple.

The victory made it two in a row for Petersburg and bumps their season record up to 15-10. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Logan, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 22-8.

Looking ahead, Petersburg will take on Oak Glen at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Golden Bears' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Vikings' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Logan does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
