Recap: Lincoln Southwest Silver Hawks vs. Gretna East Griffins
The Lincoln Southwest Silver Hawks entered their tilt with the Gretna East Griffins with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Lincoln Southwest walked away with a 61-48 win over Gretna East on Friday. Given Lincoln Southwest's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while Gretna East is ranked 187th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Lincoln Southwest to victory were Bj Bradford and Braden Frager. Bradford scored 18 points, while Frager dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Mari Shumaker was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three steals.
Drayke Brown and Talan Hovie certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Brown scored 14 points, while Hovie scored 13 points. Brown is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Jake Hawley, who scored eight points.
Lincoln Southwest has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 10-6 record this season. As for Gretna East, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-12.
Lincoln Southwest will be playing in front of their home fans against Columbus at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Lincoln Southwest's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Columbus has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road. As for Gretna East, they will play host again and welcome Elkhorn South, where tip off is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Elkhorn South is coming into the matchup with three straight victories on the road, so Gretna East is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
