Baseball Recap: Morenci Finds Home Field Redemption Against Santa Rita

There's no place like home for Morenci, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. They put the hurt on the Santa Rita Eagles with a sharp 17-2 victory on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won six in a row.

Shane Seballos made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. He has become a key player for Morenci: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-13 otherwise.

In other batting news, Morenci let Anthony Roybal and Jacob Verdugo run wild. Roybal went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Verdugo went 1-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those two runs gave Roybal a new career-high. Marques Verela also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Morenci was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Morenci's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 9-13. As for Santa Rita, they are on a 20-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Coming up, Morenci will square off against Miami at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Santa Rita, they will venture away from home to face off against Willcox at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cowboys have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.94 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
