Bishop Miege can attribute much of their success to Mary Grant, who went 8-for-15 en route to 21 points in addition to six assists and six boards, and Jayla McClinton, who went 8-for-10 on her way to 17 points and six rebounds. The game was Grant's fifth in a row with at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kirston Verhulst, who posted ten points and five assists.
They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Bishop Miege was working as a unit and finished the game with 26 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.
Meanwhile, St. James Academy faced Saint Thomas Aquinas in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. St. James Academy secured a 54-48 W over Saint Thomas Aquinas.
St. James Academy's win came from a few key players Bishop Miege will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Regan Becker, who went 5-for-10 to rack up 14 points and eight rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Elle Robinson, who went 5-for-6 on her way to 12 points and three steals.
St. James Academy's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.4 points over those games. As for Bishop Miege, their victory bumped their record up to 12-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Bishop Miege has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like St. James Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.4 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Bishop Miege and St. James Academy were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in January, but Bishop Miege came up empty-handed after a 48-47 loss.
