Middlesex piles up the points against Mathews

Recap: Middlesex Chargers vs. Mathews Blue Devils

The Middlesex Chargers can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They breezed by Mathews on the road to the tune of 83-46. Given Middlesex's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 209th, while Mathews is ranked 428th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Kellen Layne, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Henry Fleet, who scored 11 points along with two steals.

Middlesex is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Mathews, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-14.

Middlesex won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Christchurch School at 2:30 p.m. on January 27th. Averaging 65.07 points so far this season, Middlesex's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Christchurch School better be ready for a challenge. As for Mathews, they will head out on the road to square off against Carver College and Career Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Carver College and Career Academy is coming into the contest with five straight victories at home, so Mathews is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
