Softball Recap: Northgate Has No Trouble Against Pittsburg

Northgate made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Pittsburg, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Northgate Broncos were the clear victor by a 21-0 margin over the Pittsburg Pirates on Thursday. This was payback for the Broncos, who suffered an 11-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Ashley Herman was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Herman was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

In other pitching news, Mackenzie Hudson looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Northgate got a massive performance out of Stella Hanko, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Hanko has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Addison Baxter, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-5.

Northgate hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in seven consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Northgate's record now sits at 2-0. As for Pittsburg, they dropped their record down to 0-2 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northgate will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Mt. Diablo at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Northgate is facing Mt. Diablo at the right time seeing as Mt. Diablo is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Pittsburg, they will face off against Pinole Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
