Baseball Game Preview: Mission Bears vs. Balboa Buccaneers

For the second straight game, Mission will face off against Balboa. The Bears will head out on the road to challenge the Buccaneers at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Mission will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Monday, then bounced right back against Balboa on Wednesday. The Bears put the hurt on the Buccaneers with a sharp 12-3 victory. The win continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Buccaneers: they've now won four in a row.

Rowan Powell made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Adrian Chiavarria was incredible, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Mission is 2-1 when Chiavarria posts two or more runs, but 4-17 otherwise. Diego Ramirez was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Balboa is on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13. As for Mission, their victory bumped their record up to 6-18.
