Football Recap: Hoover Starts off Right with Win over Buchtel

Hoover took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They blew past the Buchtel Griffins, posting a 30-0 win. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 88th, while the Griffins are ranked 233rd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Among those leading the charge was John Collins, who threw for 156 yards and one touchdown while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also punched in one score on the ground.

Hoover's run defense was locked in: Buchtel could only muster 1.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Carter Lukens for the heroic effort on defense: he. Hoover's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.4.

Hoover's defense didn't let Arthur Thomas., get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: David Tully, Owen Williams, and Marcos Aguirre, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Buchtel's side was Lukens, who made 13 total tackles (3.0 for loss).
