Basketball Game Preview: Overland Trailblazers vs. Smoky Hill Buffaloes

The Overland Trailblazers are taking a road trip to face off against the Smoky Hill Buffaloes at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Overland took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 72-47 margin over Cherokee Trail. With the Trailblazers ahead 39-18 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Siraaj Ali was his usual excellent self, going 6 of 10 to rack up 21 points along with six assists and six rebounds. That's the most boards he has posted since back in January of 2024. Demetrius Lambert was another key player, putting up 11 points and six rebounds.

Overland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Smoky Hill beat Grandview 57-48 on Friday.

Overland's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-11. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points over those games. As for Smoky Hill, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-9 record this season.

Overland came up short against Smoky Hill in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 76-72. Can Overland avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
