Recap: Garinger Wildcats vs. Providence Panthers

The Garinger Wildcats suffered their biggest loss since December 15, 2023 on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Providence, falling 60-30. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Garinger in their matchups with Providence: they've now lost seven in a row.

Despite the defeat, Garinger saw an underclassman step up: Misa Garris scored 13 points along with two steals. Garris is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Imonee Patterson, who scored two points along with three steals.

Garinger struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

It was another big night for Delanie Hill, who went 7 for 14 from beyond the arc en route to 30 points and 2 assists for Providence. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hill has scored all season. Marlee Whitten was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with 13 rebounds.

Garinger has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season. As for Providence, they pushed their record up to 9-8 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Garinger will head out on the road to take on Butler at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Brooklyn Saunders and Garris. As for Providence, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Charlotte Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Charlotte Catholic presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Providence in North Carolina (Charlotte Catholic is ranked third, while Providence is ranked 142nd).
