Baseball Recap: Benton Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Carmi-White County, Benton was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Centralia Orphans 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rangers have posted since May 1, 2024.

Peyton Robinson made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off ten hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases.

Robinson wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Holden Skibo, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Another was Kyle Thomas, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

The victory got Benton back to even at 1-1. As for Centralia, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Benton wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 9-1 win against Hardin County on the 21st. As for Centralia, they have also already played their next game, a 5-1 victory against Frankfort on the 20th.
