Basketball Game Preview: Onteora Eagles vs. Wallkill Panthers

Onteora is 0-5 against Wallkill since December of 2017 but things could change on Tuesday. The Onteora Eagles will square off against the Wallkill Panthers at 5:45 p.m. Onteora will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

Onteora can't be too worried about heading out to take on Wallkill: they just beat Pine Plains at home, who had been dominant on their own court up to that point. Onteora snuck past Pine Plains with a 54-49 win on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Wallkill didn't have too much trouble with New Paltz on Thursday as they won 58-41. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 202nd, while the Huguenots are ranked 583rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wallkill pushed their record up to 9-8 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.4 points over those games. As for Onteora, their win bumped their record up to 12-4.

Onteora was taken down by Wallkill 48-18 when the teams last played back in December of 2019. Can Onteora avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
