Basketball Recap: Wheeling Park Comes Up Short

Wheeling Park and Preston squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Wheeling Park had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Preston Knights by a score of 52-49. The matchup was a 23-23 toss-up at halftime, but the Patriots couldn't quite close it out.

Preston got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Easton Hayes out in front who shot 60% from the field on his way to 14 points in addition to eight rebounds and four blocks. The dominant performance gave Hayes a new career-high in blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron White, who went 7-for-11 to rack up 14 points and six boards.

Wheeling Park dropped their record down to 5-17 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road. As for Preston, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-10 record.

Wheeling Park does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Preston, they will square off against Morgantown at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Morgantown has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 214 points over their last three contests.
