Basketball Game Preview: Tucker County Mountain Lions vs. Hampshire Trojans

The Tucker County Mountain Lions will square off against the Hampshire Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Tuesday, Tucker County took their matchup with ease, bagging a 73-20 victory over Union. The Mountain Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 35 points or more this season.

Tucker County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Raven Matthews led the charge by going 7 of 11 on her way to 16 points in addition to six boards and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Reagan Herron, who posted eight points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Tucker County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in ten consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Hampshire didn't have too much trouble with Frankfort on Wednesday as they won 55-37. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while the Falcons are ranked 239th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hampshire is also on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points per game. As for Tucker County, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
