Basketball Recap: Reed Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Churchill County

On Thursday, Reed faced Churchill County in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Reed Raiders wound up with the same score they had in their last game (47-41), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. The loss continues a trend for them in their matchups with the Greenwave: they've now lost three in a row.

Reed's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Faanaetaua Puloka, who posted 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals, and Anastasia Lombardi, who had nine points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Lombardi has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jocelyn Munoz Martinez, who put up two points and five steals.

Churchill County found their leader in sophomore Raegan Johnson, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards. Those 13 points gave Johnson a new career-high. Vernita Fillmore was another key player, putting up seven points and four steals.

Reed's record now sits at 1-1.

Reed wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 36-25 win against Elko on the 6th. As for Churchill County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-28 victory against Yerington on the 5th.
