Softball Recap: Rustburg Falls Short Against Ranked Jefferson Forest

Rustburg faced Jefferson Forest in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Red Devils fell just short of the Cavaliers by a score of 1-0. The match marked the first time this year in which the Red Devils were not able to get on the board.

Not much got past Laila Bigham, who gave up just a hit and racked up 16 Ks to keep Jefferson Forest off the board. Bigham has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

Having lost for the first time this season, Rustburg fell to 6-1. As for Jefferson Forest, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 7-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rustburg will face off against Alleghany at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Red Devils' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Jefferson Forest, they will take on Lord Botetourt at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
