Football Preview: Milton Eagles vs. Shiloh Generals

After each having a week off, the Milton Eagles and the Shiloh Generals will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Milton 12.9, Shiloh 14.9) so any points scored will be well earned.

Milton is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Georgia's top teams: Roswell, who was ranked eighth at the time (Milton was ranked tenth). The Eagles fell just short of the Hornets by a score of 41-39 last Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Eagles have suffered against the Hornets since September 14, 2018.

Milton might have lost, but man, Bentley Hickman was a machine: he rushed for 256 yards and three scores while picking up 8.8 yards per carry. Hickman's longest rush was for an incredible 75 yards. Another player making a difference was Ben Halevi, who threw for 143 yards and a pair of TDs.

While Milton came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Roswell: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 50%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Keelan Wonsley and Lawson Estes, who each logged one passes deflected. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Milton; they were averaging 57.6%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three games they've fallen to only 57.6%.

Meanwhile, Shiloh entered their tilt with Dunwoody two weeks ago with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They walked away with a 28-21 victory over the Wildcats. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but the Generals were the better team in the second half.

Milton better keep an eye on John Wilson. He was instrumental in Shiloh's win, rushing for 42 yards and one touchdown, while also throwing for 175 yards and one TD on only 14 passes. Wilson's passing game has become a key predictor of the Generals' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 3-4 otherwise. 100 of Wilson's passing yards were hauled in by Isaiah Johnson, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Shiloh didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Tyrell Dorsey and Tim Anthony. Dorsey is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last six games he's played. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Milton's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-3. As for Shiloh, their record now sits at 6-4.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Milton has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 193.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Shiloh struggles in that department as they've been averaging 224.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
