League recap: Risner overpowering for Lonoke in past week

4A Region 2 league recap: 3/27/13

Zack Risner was the top pitcher in 4A Region 2 this week, leading Lonoke. Over the past week, he racked up three wins and 16 strikeouts.

Southside made the biggest jump in the standings this week, moving from fifth to third place in the league thanks to a 1-0 record over the past seven days. Meanwhile, Newport fell hardest in the standings, dropping from third all the way to fifth place after going 0-1 in the past week. the Jackrabbits (8-5, 2-0) are the No. 1 team in the league.

Lonoke boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks.

Risner led the league with three wins and 16 strikeouts this week.

The top hitter in the league so far this season has been the Jackrabbits' Madison James, who leads all players in average, hits and RBIs. James has terrorized opposing pitchers, hitting .447 and racking up 17 hits and 13 RBIs.



Blake Gooden drove in four runners on Monday in Lonoke's 14-7 victory over the Greyhounds. He went 1-for-5 and scored two runs.
