League recap: Mandeville tops Covington to extend winning streak

5A District 6 recap November 13, 2013

Mandeville extended the longest winning streak in 5A District 6 this week by beating Covington, 23-14. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Skippers.

St. Paul was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. The Wolves vanquished Fontainebleau 56-27 earlier in the week.

St. Paul's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Ryan O'Krepki threw for 213 and 2 touchdowns and Jalen McCleskey had 97 yards receiving. On the ground Marcus Gaines contributed 137 yards. Grant Hebert helped St. Paul's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 49 yards.

He was 13-20 with 0 interceptions.

Glen Cuiellette was a passing and rushing force as Mandeville topped the Lions. He completed 15 passes for 213 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 99 yards. Cuiellette's favorite target this week was Parker Orgeron, who caught 4 passes for 53 yards.

O'Krepki put up the best numbers in passing as Kenny Sears' team beat the Bulldogs. O'Krepki's favorite target this week was McCleskey, who caught 5 passes for 97 yards.

The leading receiver in the league this season is McCleskey. The St. Paul star has 41 catches for 587 yards.

The Wolves were able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping Fontainebleau. St. Paul came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 30 last week.
