Football Recap: Palma Chieftains vs. Aptos Mariners

Palma entered their contest against Aptos on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Palma Chieftains fell just short of the Aptos Mariners by a score of 34-31. The Chieftains just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Despite the defeat, Palma saw an underclassman step up: Eli Dukes rushed for 271 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.8 yards per carry. Those 271 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Dukes.

Even though they lost, Palma was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 336 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Aptos' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ryan Solorio, who rushed for 107 yards on only 11 carries. Solorio got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 66 yards.

Palma now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Aptos, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Palma will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Hollister at 7:30 p.m. on October 25th. As for Aptos, they will welcome Salinas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Salinas will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Aptos surely won't give up without a fight.
