Basketball Game Preview: Caribou Vikings vs. Old Town Coyotes

The Caribou Vikings are taking a road trip to face off against the Old Town Coyotes at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Caribou is coming into the game hot, having won their last nine games.

On Wednesday, Caribou humbled Houlton with a 68-21 victory. The Vikings have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, after a string of ten wins, Old Town's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They lost to Hermon on the road by a 35-20 margin. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Coyotes came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while the Hawks are ranked 45th).

Caribou pushed their record up to 14-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.1 points per game. As for Old Town, their loss dropped their record down to 12-6.

Caribou took their win against Old Town when the teams last played back in December of 2024 by a conclusive 62-40. The rematch might be a little tougher for Caribou since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
