Recap: Gray's Creek Bears vs. Cape Fear Colts

The Gray's Creek Bears's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Cape Fear at home and fell 82-46. While losing is never fun, Gray's Creek can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 438th, while Cape Fear is ranked 32nd).

Jayda Angel continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Cape Fear, dropping a double-double on 44 points and ten steals. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which Angel has scored at least a third of Cape Fear's points. Another player making a difference was Kayia Starling, who scored ten points along with three steals and three blocks.

Gray's Creek's loss dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Cape Fear, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gray's Creek will take on Purnell Swett at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cape Fear, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Douglas Byrd at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th. Douglas Byrd is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
