Riverside has gone a perfect 3-0 against Kirtland recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Beavers are taking a road trip to square off against the Hornets at 4:30 p.m. Riverside will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Riverside's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Benedictine with a sharp 10-0 win. The Beavers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.
Ethan Hay looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Riverside got a big performance out of Lelynd Chapman, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was Chapman's first of the season. Spencer Short was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Riverside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Benedictine only posted a batting average of .118.
Meanwhile, Kirtland was able to grind out a solid victory over Grand Valley on Monday, taking the game 8-3. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Max Paul looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits.
At the plate, Luciano Cantini was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Riverside's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-8. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Kirtland, their record now sits at 15-6.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Riverside hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .334. However, it's not like Kirtland struggles in that department as they've averaged .326. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Riverside's way against Kirtland when the teams last played back in March of 2019, as Riverside made off with an 8-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Beavers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
