Softball Recap: Hampden Find Success

Hampden proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by eight) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Messalonskee Eagles 7-5. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Broncos also won the last time the pair played back in June of 2024.

Cat Facchini made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Facchini was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Aubrey Shaw and Kiera Gabric did most of the damage at the plate: Shaw went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Gabric went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Mariah Coon was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Hampden kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive matchups.

Hampden's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Messalonskee, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hampden will welcome Mount Desert Island at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Messalonskee, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lewiston at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
