Softball Recap: Taft Extends Winning Streak to Three

Taft extended their winning streak to three on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 12-6 in the process. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Saint Ignatius College Prep Wolfpack. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Eagles also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2023.

Michaela Power spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Samantha Ricken, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

As for Saint Ignatius College Prep, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season. They just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

On Saint Ignatius College Prep's side, Molly Milanowski made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Taft will be taking part in a tournament against Oak Creek at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Knights' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Saint Ignatius College Prep, they will challenge DePaul College Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
