Basketball Recap: DeSoto County Takes a Loss

DeSoto County and Booker squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but DeSoto County had to settle for second. They had to suffer through a 74-37 loss at the hands of the Booker Tornadoes. The Bulldogs were down 56-29 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

DeSoto County's loss came despite strong showings from Yahri Tyler and Jaliyah Luther. Tyler dropped a double-double with 16 points and 12 boards, while Luther posted six points and six rebounds. Tyler has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 13 times she's played.

Even though they lost, DeSoto County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 12 consecutive matchups.

Marayah Stuart had a dynamite game for Booker, dropping a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Stuart a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Yvette Brown, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

DeSoto County's loss dropped their record down to 21-7. As for Booker, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 20-6.

DeSoto County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Booker will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Palm Bay at 5:00 p.m. on March 4th. Booker knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten games -- so hopefully Palm Bay likes a good challenge.
