Baseball Game Preview: Opelousas Catholic Vikings vs. Live Oak Eagles

The Opelousas Catholic Vikings will square off against the Live Oak Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Opelousas Catholic's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Live Oak's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Opelousas Catholic is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering St. Edmund just ended the team's 11-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 7-2 to the Fighting Blue Jays.

Meanwhile, Live Oak had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it ten on Thursday. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Gators.

Sawyer Pruitt tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cal Cassard was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Live Oak pushed their record up to 23-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Opelousas Catholic, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 18-7-1.
