Softball Game Preview: Northwestern Tigers vs. Barron Golden Bears

Northwestern is a perfect 10-0 against Barron since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Tigers will take on the Golden Bears at 5:00 p.m. Northwestern is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Northwestern's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Ashland with a sharp 11-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Oredockers: they've now won seven in a row.

Ashlyn Sutherland was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Claire Nielsen was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Barron unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They came up short against Cumberland, falling 9-2. Having soared to a lofty 21 runs in the game before, the Golden Bears couldn't push the score so high this time.

Barron saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madalyn Kallsen, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. Kallsen is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.

Northwestern's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Barron, they suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 6-4-1.

Everything went Northwestern's way against Barron in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Northwestern made off with a 16-0 win. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Golden Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
