The NSU University Sharks are taking a road trip to square off against the South Plantation Paladins at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. NSU University is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
NSU University is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest victory since April 30, 2024 on Thursday. They skirted past Monsignor Pace 5-3.
Matthew Greenberg spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024.
At the plate, Rocco Rovetto was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Devin Mila also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
NSU University was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monsignor Pace only posted a batting average of .222.
Meanwhile, South Plantation made easy work of Fort Lauderdale on Thursday and carried off a 12-4 win. The Paladins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by eight runs or more this season.
Caleb Thomas was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Thomas was even better at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.
In other pitching news, South Plantation got a great performance from Aidan Fitzgerald as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Fitzgerald has become a key player for South Plantation: the team is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-6 otherwise.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on John McDevitt, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Lucas Decordova was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
NSU University's record is now 9-2. As for South Plantation, their record now sits at 4-6.
South Plantation's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: NSU University hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .352. It's a different story for South Plantation, though, as they've only averaged .250. Will they be able to contain NSU University's hitters?
Everything went NSU University's way against South Plantation when the teams last played back in April of 2023, as NSU University made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for NSU University since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
