Basketball Recap: Riverwalk Academy Sets Scoring Season-High Against Walnut Grove Christian

Riverwalk Academy scored the most points they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 66-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Walnut Grove Christian Christian Warriors. The Lions just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Defeat or not, Riverwalk Academy got some senior leadership from Austin Thurman and Levi Staton. Thurman dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten boards, while Staton went 6 of 12 on his way to 18 points and eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thurman has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Adam Johnson, who posted five points along with six steals and five boards.

Even though they lost, Riverwalk Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Walnut Grove Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than AJ Curerton, who put up 25 points. Curerton's evening made it 12 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Jake Schlosser was another key player, putting up 17 points.

Riverwalk Academy's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Walnut Grove Christian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

Riverwalk Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 56-27 defeat against Lamar on the 19th. As for Walnut Grove Christian, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Grace Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
