It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Moore Haven had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Marathon Dolphins a 15-0 shutout. The Terriers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.
Brooklyn Sergent made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Charisma Micco and JoEllen Erskin did most of the damage at the plate: Micco went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double, while Erskin went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Micco has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Khloe Desroche, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Moore Haven's victory bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Marathon, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-7.
Coming up, Moore Haven will face off against Fort Meade at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Terriers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Miners have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season. Marathon does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
