Baseball Game Preview: Jimtown Jimmies vs. Mishawaka Marian Knights

The Jimtown Jimmies will take on the Mishawaka Marian Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Jimtown is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Elkhart just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 4-1 to the Lions. The match marked the Jimmies' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Connor Christman made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double.

Illiana Christian hit Mishawaka Marian with a nine-run first inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Knights lost 12-2 to the Vikings.

Mishawaka Marian saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Maloney, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Jake VanBruaene also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Jimtown's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Mishawaka Marian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Mishawaka Marian's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Jimtown has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Mishawaka Marian, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Jimtown keep running through batters, or will the Knights buck the trend?
