Basketball Recap: Garces Memorial Rams vs. Taft Wildcats

Garces Memorial was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were one points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 57-56 heartbreaker at the hands of the Taft Wildcats. The Rams were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.

It was another big night for Ernie Laulu, who went 9 for 20 on his way to 28 points and seven rebounds for Taft. Laulu's afternoon made it ten games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of David Magana, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 16 points and five boards.

Garces Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Taft, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Garces Memorial will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Mira Monte at 2:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for Taft, they will head out to challenge Templeton at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Taft is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.1 points per game this season.
