Jefferson County hadn't done well against St. John Paul II recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Jefferson County Tigers had just enough and edged the St. John Paul II Panthers out 38-36. The Tigers' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Among those leading the charge was Haley Schmigel, who posted 18 points. Another player making a difference was Hope Steen, who put up five points and three steals.

St. John Paul II's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aliyah Medrano, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards. What's more, Medrano also racked up six steals, the most she's had since back in December of 2023. Ashlyn Naumann was another key player, putting up nine points along with five rebounds and four steals.

With the victory, Jefferson County broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-5. As for St. John Paul II, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.

Jefferson County will venture away from home to face off against Liberty County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. John Paul II, they will host Franklin County at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Franklin County's defense has only allowed 28.7 points per game this season, so St. John Paul II's offense will have their work cut out for them.
