Basketball Game Preview: Abbeville Panthers vs. Lamar Silver Foxes

The Abbeville Panthers will square off against the Lamar Silver Foxes at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Abbeville knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 21 contests -- so hopefully Lamar likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, Abbeville was able to grind out a solid win over McCormick, taking the game 62-54.

Jaden Baylor continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 9-for-15 en route to 26 points along with six boards and three blocks. Those three blocks gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Justin Rollinson, who posted 12 points in addition to eight assists and three steals.

Meanwhile, Lamar ended up a good deal behind Lee Central on Friday and lost 74-56.

Despite the loss, Lamar saw an underclassman step up: freshman Lamont Williams dropped a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Williams has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more boards the last 17 times he's played. NyShaun 'Shaun' Quillen was another key player, putting up six points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Even though they lost, Lamar smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 24 consecutive games.

Abbeville pushed their record up to 19-2 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 32.4 points. As for Lamar, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 10-16 record this season.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Abbeville has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 38.7 boards per game. However, it's not like Lamar struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.7 rebounds.
