Softball Recap: Hanover Area Drops Highest Score of Season Against MMI Preparatory School

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Wyoming Valley West, Hanover Area was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 17-8 margin over MMI Preparatory School. The Hawkeyes' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Caitlin Vigorito was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.9 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Ponko, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, eight RBI, and two stolen bases. Those eight RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Malcarne, who went 2-for-4 with four runs and one stolen base.

Hanover Area's record is now 4-8. As for MMI Preparatory School, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, Hanover Area will venture away from home to challenge Berwick at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for MMI Preparatory School, they will host Greater Nanticoke Area at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.88 runs per game on average), something MMI Preparatory School will no doubt try to take advantage of.
