Recap: Leake Central Gators vs. Northeast Lauderdale Trojans
The Leake Central Gators had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 49-48 win over Northeast Lauderdale. The win was all the more spectacular given Leake Central's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while the Trojans are ranked 35th).
Despite the loss, Northeast Lauderdale still got an impressive performance from Troy Brown, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 18 rebounds. Davian Franklin was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five steals.
Leake Central's win bumped their record up to 8-11. As for Northeast Lauderdale, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 15-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Leake Central won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on January 27th. Averaging 64.83 points so far this season, Choctaw Central's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so the Gators better be ready for a challenge.
