Volleyball Recap: Columbus East Starts Season with Loss at Home

Columbus East unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bloomington North Cougars on Tuesday. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it seven in a row.

The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 24-26, 25-14, 25-19.

Columbus East's offense was headlined by Anika Jenkins and Addy Dean, who picked up eight kills apiece. They got some help from Kenlee Gault and her 13 assists. Finally, Lilah Klei kept Columbus East's defense grounded, leading the team with three blocks.

Leading Bloomington North to victory were Ally O'Guinn and Jenna Newby. O'Guinn had 25 digs and two aces, while Newby had nine digs and three aces.

The victory got Bloomington North back to even at 1-1.

Columbus East wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 3-1 loss against Franklin Community on the 21st. As for Bloomington North, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-0 defeat against Brownstown Central on the 21st.
