Baker County is 9-1 against Hilliard since February of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wildcats will look to defend their home field against the Red Flashes at 6:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Baker County comes in on three and Hilliard on four.
Baker County barely beat Columbia the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wildcats never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Wildcats considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Rylee Walker looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Baleigh Shields and Nasia Green did most of the damage at the plate: Shields went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Green went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Green has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Keyla Nelson, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Baker County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Columbia only posted a batting average of .167.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Hilliard sidestepped Union County for a 7-5 win. That's two games straight that the Red Flashes have won by exactly two runs.
Peighton Self was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kierstin Northern, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Hilliard's victory bumped their record up to 6-12. As for Baker County, their win bumped their record up to 16-4.
Hilliard's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Baker County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. It's a different story for Hilliard, though, as they've only averaged .233. Will they be able to contain Baker County's hitters?
