Softball Recap: Pacifica Find Success

Pacifica was handed an eight-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Roosevelt Mustangs 6-5. This was payback for the Mariners, who suffered a 7-6 loss the last time these two teams met.

Raquel Pineda got the start for Pacifica and what a start it was: she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Pineda has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mattea Stern and Jenna Valladares did most of the damage at the plate: Stern went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run, while Valladares went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two hits gave Valladares a new career-high. McKenna Laukat also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Pacifica's record is now 9-5. As for Roosevelt, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.

Pacifica and Roosevelt will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Mariners will square off against rival Canyon at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Roosevelt is set to challenge their familiar foe Santiago at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
