Itasca hasn't had much luck against Hico recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wampus Cats are taking a road trip to square off against the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Friday, Itasca made easy work of Frost and carried off a 19-11 victory.
The team relied heavily on Emma Malke, who fired off two home runs, eight RBI, and one stolen base while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tatiana Charles, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-4.
Malke wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Itasca lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hico, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Meridian with a sharp 17-1 win on Friday. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Yellowjackets recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Mikaelynn Miles made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Addyson Swank was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Kaitlyn Gontarek was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.
Itasca's record is now 6-10. As for Hico, their record now sits at 7-8.
Itasca suffered a grim 12-5 defeat to Hico when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Wampus Cats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
