Baseball Game Preview: Frontier Mustangs vs. Woodland Cougars

Frontier is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Monday. They will challenge the Woodland Cougars at 6:15 p.m. Frontier has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 13th.

Frontier fell victim to Garber and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 14-0 to the Wolverines. The match marked the first time this year in which the Mustangs were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Woodland also failed to score in their most recent game. They came up short against Drummond on Friday, falling 11-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Cougars' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Woodland saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Pate Nibeck, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double.

Frontier's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Woodland, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Frontier has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .468. However, it's not like Woodland struggles in that department as they've averaged .459. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Frontier was able to grind out a solid victory over Woodland in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, winning 8-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for Frontier since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
