Softball Game Preview: Calaveras Red Hawks vs. Riverbank Bruins

For the second straight game, Calaveras will face off against Riverbank. Calaveras will host Riverbank at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Calaveras has four straight victories, Riverbank has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Calaveras' pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They blew past Riverbank 7-0.

Kamryn Thornburg made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 18 over seven innings pitched. Those 18 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. She also scored a run, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Alexa Ortega was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 1-for-3. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Kendra Baechler was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-4.

Calaveras' win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Riverbank, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11-1.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Calaveras has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Riverbank struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
